Wounded Child – Brave

To tame the wild beast
you must not be afraid.
Your heart must stay brave
with both hands firm and steady,
mind alert and always ready.
Quietly stalking through the grasses,
gently drifting among the trees,
you must move as although transformed
into a subtle midnight breeze.

To tame the wild beast
you must see into its savage eyes
and not get lost or hypnotized,
or scared of fangs always biting and gnashing,
or razor sharp claws always ripping and slashing.
With a clear mind always thinking
you must catch the beast while blinking.
Then if through stealth and extreme care
the beast hasn’t realized you’re there
you can jump on its back, hold on tight,
and ride away victorious into the glorious night.

The Poetry of Archetypes are written by Sulaiman Mackay

Sulaiman Mackay is a lifelong lover of writing poetry and has been particularly enamored with it since arriving at middle-age. He has realized it is a powerfully evocative and revealing means of self discovery and conscious development. He started writing poems about archetypes as a way of expressing his inner work, discovering the light and shadow aspects of his psyche, and to explore the energetics of the archetypal experience. He has recently completed an Honours Degree in Creative Communications at the University of Canberra and is currently looking for a way to turn his love for the written word into paid work.
