We are in the middle of a big change that is taking place on this planet. Everyday we hear new stories about the bank crisis, resource scarcity or another war going on. Many of us are feeling uncertain, scared and fearful about the all that and what is yet to come.
We sit at home watching TV and consume all that the media has to offer to make us small and helpless.
But this is not true. In fact we do have more power and influence than others do make us believe.
In a small town in the North of England a single mum of two children made a life-changing decision and opened her own business to make a difference to the world.
Adelle Lince is one of many others who do believe that we all can help to make this a better world. These are the pioneers that lead the path for a better understanding of sustainability here on this planet. Adelle truly believes that everyone can make a difference if the people only start to take responsibility.
“I was just fed up with all the things I saw around me. People spending money on useless things, the media tells us to buy cheaper and more and no one really cares what is going on behind the scenes.”
Behind the scenes we find the price that is there to pay for our hunger of consumption, people in third world countries working day and night for less than a pound a day and their children are starving. Big companies exploit the ressources of the planet, pollution and ongoing destruction of small business is the price we all have to pay for our hunger for more. If we want this world to change we need to become a part of its solution.
“The people need to wake up. They need to realize what will happen if we still walk the road of blind consumption. Supermarkets throw away tonnes of food everyday while there are people dying on hunger in other countries. And it is not different in the fashion industry, did you know that, added up across the UK, women spend more than £1.6 Billion on more than 500 Million items of clothing that they will never wear?! Millions of purchases that were a good idea at the time, end up gathering dust in a wardrobe….I had to do something about this.”
Adele has always been interested in fashion and as a single mum of two kids she also knows how hard life can be and often there is not much money left.
“I might never had much money but I still could wear nice things even when they have been second hand. Looking beautiful doesn’t mean to spend tonnes furthermore it is about what you wear. It is about style rather than about superficial thinking.”
What would you think If I tell you now, that you could wear designer clothes for a good price and at the same time you could save the world? You think that is not possible? Adelle Lince created an Online Shop in which she sells donated or bought fashion and with every purchase you do she will donate 20% of the income to a charity of your choice.
I personally believe that this is not only a good idea but an absolutely awesome way to create a better future for us all. If we start to take responsibility for our own habits and consumption we can create a future in which everyone has enough and there is no need for greed.
Fashion with compassion is her slogan and it pays off. More and more women all around the globe decide to give away their unworn clothing and donate it to charity shops. This is just the beginning of a new revolution. A revolution I which less is more and looking beautiful will save the world at the same time.
When I ask Adelle about her long term goal she starts smiling and I can see sparkles in her eyes:
“We would like to set up a Rural Retreat and Animal Sanctuary for adults and children who are suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
In brief, PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) is a debilitating anxiety disorder caused by very stressful, frightening or distressing events. Conventional Treatment is widely recognised to be in the form of psychological treatment and antidepressant medication. However, AAT (Animal Assisted Therapy) is now being recognised as a very effective treatment, to run alongside the more conventional methods.
AAT (Animal Assisted Therapy) is a type of therapy that involves animals as a form of treatment. The goal of AAT is to improve a patient’s social, emotional, or cognitive functioning. Whilst the majority of cases involve pairing PTSD patients with dogs, the treatment has also seen positive results when patients interact with other animals like horses, cats, birds and, even dolphins. Pets have measurable positive impacts on the humans who care for them. Pets reduce stress, reduce anxiety, lower blood pressure, boost the immune system, and promote exercise. Now to that list can be added, helping PTSD patients to reduce their symptoms.”
